André Diniz has published over 30 graphic novels, among them Morro da Favela (2013), Que Deus te abandone (2015), Malditos amigos (2018), Entre cegos e invisíveis (2019), Revolta da vacina (2021), and Matei meu pai e foi estranho (2021). His Morro da favela has been translated into French, English and Polish, has been the basis for exhibitions in France and Portugal, the subject of scholarly discussion at “Comics and Social Inequalities in Latin America” (University of Manchester) and “Imagining the Black Diaspora” (Freie Universität Berlin), and was the recipient of the prestigious HQ Mix Trophy.
Join Cristina Álvarez, member of iCOn-MICs, in conversation with André Diniz who will be discussing his narrative art, his graphic art, and the main formal and stylistic elements running through his graphic novels (urban space, (counter-)visual culture, social inequality, political violence, and family conflicts).
